Engaging and well-researched program notes can help bridge gaps between ensembles and audience members. A simple paragraph or two about a piece, can offer context and clarity for concertgoers.
As a writer, I aim to invite audiences to engage with composers in a new light — to hear their music as an opportunity to step into their unique life and context.
We must remember that every composer (past and present), shares in our humanity — they too live and breathe, just like us. Their music is a vessel not only for us to understand them, but also an opportunity to better understand ourselves and each other.
